Axel Hermann Haig, Swedish, 1835-1921. At the end of the nineteenth century, Axel Haig was one of Britain's most famous etchers. Haig was born and raised in Sweden, and initially studied naval architecture. He settled in London and worked for several architects. Haig studied etching in his spare hours and later began producing the large architectural views that made him famous. Axel Haig became a regular exhibitor at the prestigious Royal Academy.
An etching which is bright and unfaded, in dark brown ink ink, with excellent ink lines and detail, the image size measuring approximately 27 cms. x 41 cms. (10½ x 16 ins.) within a strong platemark and impression on a laid paper sheet size of 35 cms. x 51 cms. (13½ x 20 ins.) with full margins.
Dated and signed in the image with Haig's monogram and signed in pencil by the artist in the lower margin.
Unframed and unmounted, the condition of the image and sheet is good with handling marks condusive with age.
