Charles H. Baskett
Charles Henry Baskett; 1872-1953, British etcher and aquatinter. Taught by his father, he studied at the Colchester School of Art and the Lambeth School of Art and was then tutored by Frank Mura. Charles received much acclaim for his aquatint etchings and his beautifully rendered landscapes, marine scenes and river views have become very collectable. A collection of his prints (published in editions of 75) is now housed at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.
This finely detailed etching from a listed British artist is bright and unfaded in black ink, with fine plate toning and superb textures, the image measuring approximately 34 cms. x 24 cms. (13½ x 9½ ins ) printed within a strong platemark and impression on a wove paper sheet measuring 40 cms. x 29 cms. (15½ x 11½ ins.)
Signed and titled in pencil by the artist in the lower margin.
Unmounted and unframed, the condition of the image and sheet is very good with handling marks and scattered foxing condusive with age.
