Charles J. Watson
Charles John Watson R.E; 1846-1927. English painter and etcher of many subjects, with his landscapes focused mainly on Northern France, Venice and Norfolk. Born in Norwich, he was a medal winner at Chicago’s International Exhibition, 1893 and in Paris in 1900. He was a founder member of the Royal Society of Painter Etchers and Engravers.
A fine etching which has bright and unfaded colour, with excellent fine detail and black ink intaglio detail, lines and plate tone. The image size measuring approximately 23 cms. x 20 cms. (9 x 8 ins.) within a fine platemark and impression on a laid paper sheet size of 27 cms. x 31 cms.( 10½ x 12 ins.)
Signed and dated in the image and signed in pencil by the artist in the lower margin.
Included is the original exhibition/gallery label.
Unmounted and unframed, the condition of the image and sheet is excellent.
