‘The Bazaar, Grey day’
Ernest Stephen Lumsden, R.S.A., R.E. 1883-1948; painter and etcher, Ernest was born in London and studied at Reading Art School from 1889 under Frank Morley Fletcher, at University College, London, then based in Reading and later at the Académie Julian, Paris. In 1912 he travelled to India with his wife, the artist Mabel Royds, returning to Edinburgh in 1919.
An excellent etching which is bright and unfaded in dark brown ink, with fine detail and plate tone. The image size measuring approximately 15 cms. x 11 cms. (6 x 4½ ins.) within a fine but evident platemark and impression, on a wove paper sheet size of 22 cms. x 17 cms. (8½ x 6½ ins.)
Signed by the artist in the lower margin with the title in pencil on the sheet lower edge.
Unframed and unmounted, blank on the reverse, the condition of the image and sheet is very good with handling marks condusive with age.
