Ferdinand-Jean Luigini; 1870-1943, painter in oil and watercolour, etcher and lithographer.  Born in Paris into an artistic family, the son of Alexandre Luigini, a leading composer of ballets and operas. His sister was a concert harpist and his nephew, Jean Tardieu, was a poet. Ferdinand-Jean studied art in Paris under Emile Verhaeren and exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Francais.

Signed by the artist in pencil along the lower margin with the publisher's 'EM' blindstamp (Estampe Moderne) in the lower left margin. The edition is above the blindstamp; number '209' (of the only edition of 250 impressions).

Published by the Paris publisher, Estampe Moderne. During the 1920's Estampe Moderne published colour aquatints and etchings by such well known French artists as Ferdinand-Jean Luigini and Louis Icart.

This superb aquatint etching has bright and unfaded colouring with fine detail, the image measures 32 cms. x 46 cms. (12½  x 18 ins.) within a strong platemark and impression.

Printed on a medium wove paper sheet, size; 44 cms. x 58 cms. (16½ x 23 ins.)

Unframed and unmounted, the condition of the image is excellent the sheet has a toning to a previous mat window, scattered foxing and handling marks condusive with age.
