Sir Francis Newbolt; 1863- 1940 Active: 1907 - 1928, English painter and etcher. Francis was the younger brother of the poet Sir Henry Newbolt.

Sir Francis was educated at Clifton College and Balliol College Oxford. During the 1914-1918 war he was honorary legal adviser to the Government on army contracts. He was Chancellor of the Dioceses of Exeter and Bradford and Professor of Law at the Royal Academy of Arts. As an etcher he exhibited at the Royal Academy and was president of the Art Workers Guild.

An excellent original etching which has very fine detail work in rich brown ink with fine plate tone and shadow work, the image measuring approximately 27 cms. x 18 cms. (10½ x 7 ins.) within a strong platemark and impression, on a laid paper sheet size; 34 cms. x 24 cms. (13½ x 9½ ins.) with full margins, deckle edges and makers watermark.

Signed in pencil by the artist in the lower margin.

Unframed and unmounted, the condition of the image and sheet is good with handling marks condusive with age.
