Francis John Roskruge;1871-1952, born at St Keverne, Cornwall and educated in Truro. He served in South Africa during the Boer War and East Africa in the First World War. An Engineer Captain in the Royal Navy, he moved to Bosvean St Ives on his retirement from the Navy in 1922 where he had a studio at his home. He was also known as a good actor and a well-respected playwright.
This etching has retained its excellent colouring, bright and unfaded, with superb detail and toning in dark brown ink, the image measuring approximately 20 cms. x 13 cms. (8 x 5 ins.) within a strong platemark and impression on a wove paper sheet size 26 cms. x 18 cms, (10¼ x 7 ins.)

Signed in the image and signed and titled in pencil by the artist in the lower margin.
Unframed and unmounted, the condition of the image and sheet is very good with handling marks condusive with age.
