George Frederick Watts
George Woolliscroft Rhead, 1854-1920, was apprenticed at Mintons. George gained an art scholarship to study at the South Kensington School of Art and travelled in Europe. He settled in London as an artist and illustrator and exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy and became something of an all-rounder in the arts as an etcher, designer of stained glass and teacher.

A superb etching which is bright and unfaded in brown ink, with excellent detail and plate tone. The image size measuring approximately 19 cms. x 17 cms. (7½ x 7 ins.) within a strong platemark and impression on medium wove paper sheet size of 23 cms. by 20 cms. (9 x 8 ins.)
Signed; G. W. Rhead Sc. within the plate.
Unframed and unmounted, blank on the reverse, the condition of the image and sheet is good, with an overall toning and handling marks condusive with age.
