Herta Czoernig

Herta Czoernig-Gobanz; 1886-1970,  Austrian artist, born in Klagenfurt, attended the Art School for Women and later studied in Weimar, Germany and as a pupil of Professor Ludwig Michalek.

Recognized by the Historical Documentation Center of the Austrian National Library because many of her etchings were the only surviving documents of streets and houses in Vienna destroyed during the war.

This fine atmospheric etching is bright and unfaded in coloured inks, the image measuring approximately 12 cms. x 12 cms. (4¾ x 4¾ ins.) within a strong platemark and impression on a wove paper sheet size measuring 19 cms. x 27 cms. (7½ x 10½ ins.)

Signed and titled in pencil beneath the image.

Unframed and unmounted, the condition of the image and sheet is excellent.
