Romeyn de Hooge; 1645-1708 . De Hooge was a well known Dutch engraver who worked in the style of Rembrandt.

A very rare, early etching by Romeyn De Hooge. This artwork is bright, unfaded and crisp with raised black intaglio ink lines and fine detail, the image size measuring approximately 19 cms. x 15 cms. (7½ x 6 ins.) on a laid paper sheet. The print appears to have originated from an early Dutch version of the Holy Bible.

Printed beneath the image;

Rom de Hoge inv. et. fec.........J. Lindenberg exc: cum. privit.

These images are featured in Poortman's book on Dutch illustrated bibles.

Unframed and unmounted, and blank on the reverse, the condition of the image and the sheet is good  There is no foxing or staining only minor handling marks and edge wear condusive with age. The print has been trimmed to within the platemark as was the practice of the time.
