Johan Axel Fridell
Johan Axel Fridell; 1894 1935, Swedish artist, born in Falun and died in Stockholm. In addition to etching he also painted in oil, including self-portraits, interiors with figures and landscapes. Fridell studied at the Art Academy from 1913 but was in 1916 expelled along with fellow Bertil Bull Hedlund for negligence.
His high standard of art was recognized during these years, mainly for his drypoint etchings. When Fridell died in 1935, only 40 years old, he had in nearly twenty years managed to reach the same artistic heights that it has taken such Anders Zorn an entire person's lifetime to achieve.
