John William Bramham
John William Bramham; 1905-1990, English artist who attended the Doncaster School of Art and the Slade School in London. He became Art Master at Maidstone Grammar School and after WWII he was appointed teacher in Fine Art at the School of Art in Johannesburg, where he remained for 15 years, exhibiting regularly at the South African Academy. In 1960, he returned to England and lived with his wife Kathleen at The Studio in Storrington, West Sussex, teaching and painting.
An excellent soft ground etching which has bright and unfaded colouring, in black ink with fine texturing and plate toning. The image measures 21 cms. x 15 cms. (8¼ x 6 ins.) within a strong platemark and impression.
Printed on a hand made laid paper sheet size 29 cms. x 23 cms. (11½ x 9 ins.) with deckled edges and makers watermark.
The sheet is signed and titled in pencil by the artist in the lower margin.
Unframed and unmounted, the condition of the image and sheet is good with handling marks condusive with age.
