Bijin-ga (美人画, "beautiful person picture") ukiyo
Katagawa Utamaro; Japanese artist, 1753-1806, Edo period; Kitagawa is one of the most highly regarded designers of ukiyo-e woodblock prints and paintings, and is best known for his bijin ōkubi-e ‘large-headed pictures of beautiful women’ of the 1790s.
A fine print with original colours, the image printed on a fine japon paper sheet measuring approximately 30 cms. x 27 cms. (11¾ x 10½ ins. ) laid to a backing for conservation.
Unframed, the condition of the image and the sheet is fair with edge wear and handling marks condusive with age.
