Limited edition drypoint etching

Kenneth Holmes: 1902 - 1994, British painter, watercolourist, etcher, engraver and teacher. Born in Skipton, Yorkshire and studied at Leeds College of Art and The Royal College of Art. He held positions at Croydon School of Art and Borough Polytechnic, Southwark and was appointed Principal at Huddersfield Technical College, and lastly principal of Leicester College of Art. Exhibited abroad and showed with war artists at the National Gallery, London during WWII. He was noted as a fine architectural draughtsman and excelled in the depiction of still waters. Lived in Leicester but retired near Boscastle, (Camelford) Cornwall.
A superb etching which is bright and unfaded in black ink with fine drypoint burr, the image measuring approximately 35 cms. x 23 cms, (14 x 9 ins.) printed within a fine but evident platemark and impression on a laid paper sheet, size of 39 cms. x 26 cms, (15½ x 10½ ins.)
Signed with the edition in pencil by the artist in the lower margin.
Unmounted and unframed, blank on the reverse, the condition of the image and the sheet is good, with handling marks condusive with age.
