Le Garf (Lucien Veder)

Lucien Veder; French etcher, 1902-1978  Lucien used the pseudonym, Legarf, so as not to be confused with his famous father, Eugene Veder. He learned the art of etching from his father after the First World War receiving the bronze medal in the 1923 and the silver medal in 1925 for etchings of Paris at the Salon des artistes Francais. The Louvre is still showing his etchings.

This superb etching is bright and unfaded, in colored inks with hand applied detail, the image measuring approx  22 cms. x 31 cms. (8½  x 12¼ ins.) within a strong platemark and impression on an early wove paper sheet size of  35 cms. x 49 cms. (13¾  x 19½ ins.)

Signed and titled in pencil beneath the image.

Unmounted and unframed,  the condition of the image and sheet is very good with handling marks condusive with age, not immediately noticeable, but mentioned for acccuracy, is a small pinprick hole in the image.
