Lucien-Marcelin Gautier

Lucien Gautier; French etcher;1850-1915, studied art in Aix-en-Provence under Marius Reynaud, and completed his education in Paris, under Gaucherel. He etched and engraved plates after Corot and Charles Jacque before becoming an original etcher of note. He received medals and awards in France and during his career designed and etched views of Rome, Venice and London.
 

This finely detailed etching is bright and unfaded, with excellent rich black intaglio ink lines and fine detail.  The image measuring approximately 23 cms. x 36 cms. (9  x 14  ins.) within a fine but evident platemark and impression on a laid paper sheet size 27 cms. x 41 cms. (10½  x 16 ins.) with makers watermark.

Included is the original gallery exhibition label.

Unframed and unmounted,  the condition of the image is excellent, the sheet has handling marks and a toning condusive with age.
