Lucien Margelidon; French (1857 -) pupil of the artist LeRat.

Jean François Millet, 1814-1875; French Realist Painter noted for his depictions of peasant life. The son of a farmer in Gréville, Normandy, Millet left home to study painting in Cherbourg when he was 20 years of age. In 1837 he received a scholarship to study in Paris, where he became a pupil in the studio of Paul Delaroche.

This fine etching has retained its excellent colouring, bright and unfaded, with excellent raised intaglio, dark brown ink line detail and plate tone.

The image measures 13 cms. x 11 cms, (5¼  x 4½ ins.) within a fine but evident platemark and impression on a medium wove paper sheet size 32 cms. x 274cms. (12½ x 9½ ins.)

Signed in pencil by the artist below the image.

Unframed and unmounted, blank on the reverse, the condition of the image and sheet is good.
