Maria Ressel; 1877 - 1945. Austrian painter; illustrator; etcher, born in Vienna, the daughter of Heinrich Ressel, trained as a student of Heinrich Lefler at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and Karl Karger at the Vienna Arts and Crafts School.
In 1900 she attended the painting school of Elise Mahler in Rothenburg ob der Tauber and settled there. Together they worked in Art Nouveau which is also reflected in her oil paintings, watercolors, drawings and etchings. In 1909 she travelled with E. Mahler to Egypt and met the African explorer Georg Schweinfurth. In 1912, she worked in Baden-Baden, and in Munich.
A fine original sepia etching, the image measuring approximately 9 cms. x 14 cms. (3½ x 5½ ins.) within a strong platemark and impression.
Printed on a wove paper sheet, size; 28 cms. x 35 cms (11 x 13½ ins.) with full margins.
Signed in the image.
Unframed and unmounted, the condition of the image and sheet is very good with handling marks condusive with age.
