‘Windmill in the Fens’
Percy Thomas R.E. 1846-1922; Painter and etcher of landscapes, genre scenes and portraits. Born in london and studied at the Royal Academy Schools He became a pupil of James Whistler who taught him to etch, and in 1874 he etched a portrait of his master for inclusion in Ralph Thomas's Catalogue of Whistler's Etchings. Percy Thomas exhibited at the Royal Academy and was elected a member of the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers in 1881. He lived in London and later in Hove, Sussex.
An original etching which is sharp, bright and unfaded with rich black intaglio ink lines, the image measures 22 cms. x 15 cms. (8¾ x 6 ins.) within a strong plate mark and impression.
Printed on a laid paper sheet size 29 cms. x 23 cms. (11½ x 9 ins.)
Signed in the image.
Unframed and unmounted, the condition of the image and sheet is good with handling marks condusive with age.
