John Opie; 1761–1807, English historical and portrait painter. Opie was born in Trevellas, near Truro in Cornwall, the son, and youngest child of five, of Edward Opie, a master carpenter, and Mary (née Tonkin).

An original mezzotint printed in coloured inks, the print having beautiful detail and textures. The image measuring approximately 24 cms. x 30 cms. (9½ x 12 ins.) printed within a strong platemark and impression on an early wove paper sheet measuring 28 cms. x 36 cms. (11 x 14 ins.)

Unframed and unmounted, the condition of the image is very good, and the sheet is fair with a toning to the sheet margins and soiling and handling marks condusive with age.
