Reginald E. J. Bush
Reginald Edgar James Bush; 1869-1956, English etcher, born in Cardiff, his father was Headmaster of Cardiff School of Science and Art. He studied at the Royal College of Art and won a scholarship which took him to Paris and Italy. He came to Bristol in 1895 as Principal of the Bristol Municipal School of Art which he occupied for 39 years, and taught many of his future Brother Savages. In 1911 he became an Artist Member of the Tribe. He was an active fisherman and was keen on all forms of sport, especially Rugby as his brother was a famous Rugby International.
A superb original etching which is bright and unfaded, in black ink with fine line detail, shadow work and plate tone, the image size measuring approximately 30 cms. x 22 cms. (12 x 8½ ins.) within a fine but evident platemark and impression on a wove paper sheet size of 37 cms. x 28 cms. (14½ x 11 ins.) with makers watermark.
Signed and dated in the image and signed and titled in pencil beneath the image.
Unframed and unmounted, the condition of the image and sheet is good.
