Dunseverick Castle is situated in County Antrim, Northern Ireland, near the small village of Dunseverick and the Giant's Causeway.
Robert Lillie; 1867–1949, Scottish artist, born in Edinburgh, but spent most of his life in Milngavie. He was an avid art lover and became an art teacher, eventually teaching with Glasgow School Board. Robert exhibited at The Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts, The Royal Scottish Academy, Paisley Art Institute, Stirling Fine Art Association, Greenock Art Club, The Society of Artist Printmakers, The Royal Academy in London, The Walker Art gallery in Liverpool and Milngavie Art Club. After a long career in banking, Robert Lillie resigned to concentrate full-time on painting and etching.
An excellent and rare etching which has retained its colour, bright and unfaded, in black ink with fine detail and plate toning, the image measuring approximately 27 cms x 17 cms. (10¾ x 6¾ ins.) within a strong impression and platemark, on a wove paper sheet measuring 31 cms x 19 cms. (12 x 7½ ins.)
Signed in the image and signed and titled in pencil in the lower margin.
Unframed and unmounted, the condition of the image and sheet is good with an overall toning to the sheet and light foxing.
