Ruth Meier

Ruth Meier (1888 Leis Ning - 1965 Radebeul). German painter and graphic artist. Ruth Meier studied at the Grand Ducal School in Karlsruhe from 1908 to 1913, among others at Walter Conz, as well as at the painting school in Dusseldorf under Lothar von Kunowski , and in 1913 deepened her education through a stay at Paris with Maurice Denis. From 1914 she lived and worked in Dresden , near the main railway station. From the middle of the 1920s, she turned to the woodcut with animal and landscape motifs. During the air raids on Dresden she lost her entire work. She moved to Radebeul - Niederlößnitz in Obere Bergstraße, where she lived until her death.

A superb woodcut which is bright and unfaded in black ink, with fine detail. The image size measuring approximately 12 cms. x 10 cms. (5 x 4 ins.) on a wove paper sheet measuring 19 cms. x 15 cms. (7½ x 6 ins.) laid to a backing.

Signed and titled in pencil by the artist in the lower margin.

Unframed and unmounted, the condition of the image and the sheet is good with handling marks condusive with age.
