Sidney Tushingham; 1884–1968, British painter and etcher who specialised in rustic scenes of villages and small town life, born in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, England, where he started his artistic career as a china painter. He attended Burslem School of Art and progressed to the Royal College of Art. He worked as a vase painter at Royal Doulton in 1922 as he established his career as a society painter. He also became known for his etchings of pre-war Britain, Italy and Spain. He died in Haywards Heath, West Sussex.
A very fine drypoint etching which is bright and unfaded, with excellent black ink intaglio lines, very fine detailing and plate toning, the image size measuring approximately 21 cms. x 25 cms. (8½ x 10 ins.) within a strong platemark and impression on a laid paper sheet, size of 25 cms. x 35 cms.( 10 x 14 ins.)
Signed with the artists monogram in the upper image and signed in pencil by the artist in the lower margin.
Unframed and unmounted, the condition of the image and sheet is good with handling marks condusive with age.
