Sidney Tushingham; 1884–1968, British painter and etcher who specialised in rustic scenes of villages and small town life, born in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, England, where he started his artistic career as a china painter. He attended Burslem School of Art and progressed to the Royal College of Art. He worked as a vase painter at Royal Doulton in 1922 as he established his career as a society painter. He also became known for his etchings of pre-war Britain, Italy and Spain. He died in Haywards Heath, West Sussex.
A fine etching which is bright and unfaded, with excellent black ink intaglio lines, very fine detailing and drypoint burr, the image size measuring approximately 33 cms. x 25 cms. (13 x 10 ins.) within a strong platemark and impression on a wove paper sheet, size of 51 cms. x 40 cms.( 20 x 15¾ ins.) with full margins.
Signed in pencil by the artist in the lower margin.
Unframed and unmounted, the condition of the image and sheet is good with handling marks condusive with age.
