Sophie Grosch; 1874-1962, German painter and graphic artist, born in Mainz-Kastel, studied in Darmstadt and Munich, active in Mainz. Originally a watercolour painter, Sophie increasingly specialized on original etchings.
A very fine original drypoint etching which is bright and unfaded, with excellent plate tone, detail and drypoint burr in black ink, with hand colouring. The image measuring approximately 25 cms. x 20 cms, (10 x 8 ins.) within a strong platemark and impression on a wove paper sheet size of 41 cms. x 32 cms, (16 x 12½ ins.) with full margins.
Signed and titled in pencil by the artist in the lower margin with the edition 6/100 also in pencil.
Unframed and unmounted, the condition of the image and sheet is good with handling marks condusive with age.
