Wilfred Williams Ball; 1853-1917, a London landscape and marine painter, etcher and watercolourist who lived in Putney. He travelled in Holland, Germany, Italy and Egypt to gain inspiration for his paintings and etchings, However, most of his subjects were of his home country and he exhibited a variety of landscapes of the English countryside, including views of the Thames, Stratford upon Avon and other towns. Exhibited at the Royal Academy.
A superb atmospheric etching which is bright and unfaded, in rich dark brown sepia ink, with raised intaglio ink lines, plate tone and detail. The image size measuring approximately 47 cms. x 28 cms. (18½ x 11 ins.) within a fine but evident platemark and impression on a wove paper sheet size 51 cms. x 31 cms. (20 x 12½ ins.)
Signed in pencil by the artist beneath the image.
Unmounted and unframed, the condition of the image and sheet is very good with light foxing and handling marks condusive with age.
