Reichsdruckerei, or 'The Kingdom' founded in 1879, was a printing Institute in Berlin, under the supreme direction of the Secretary of the Imperial Post Office. Generally used only for the immediate purposes of the German Reich and the states therein, Reichsdruckerei also worked for local authorities, corporations, and in some cases, private individuals. (The German state printer for banknotes); 1879-1945. The press was responsible for creating reproductions of paintings and prints by the old masters throughout the 19th and early 20th century.
A fine wood cut engraving after Albrecht Durer which has bright and unfaded colour, with excellent fine detail and black ink detail and lines. The image printed on a laid paper sheet measuring approximately 27 cms. x 38 cms. (10½ x 15 ins.)
The sheet carries a 'Reichsdruckerei' stamp to the reverse and an embossed 'Reichsdruckerei' blindstamp to the lower right corner.
Unframed and mounted the condition of the image and sheet is good, the sheet has an overall toning, edge wear and handling marks condusive with age.
