Kippford is a small village along the Solway coast, in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland.

Alexander Roy Gibson; 1880-1968, Stirlingshire painter and etcher, born in Kilsyth, the son of a Kilsyth master grocer. He turned to painting professionally after being injured in World War I. Mainly painted watercolours of topographical and rural scenes, especially around Kilsyth and in Fife and Ayrshire. He used his brother James' photgraphic studio for his sales. A regular visitor to Galloway, he stayed with his relatives, the Charteris family on many summer visits to Castle Douglas and was also a regular visitor to Kirkcudbright.
A superbly detailed original etching which is bright with unfaded colour printed with black ink with hand applied colouring, the image measuring 20 cms x 15 cms. (8 x 6 ins.) printed within a strong plate mark and impression, on a laid paper sheet measuring approximately 29 cms x 21 cms. (11½ x 8½ ins.)
Signed and titled in pencil by the artist in the lower margin.
Unframed and unmounted, the condition of the image and sheet is very good with a toning to a previous mat window and handling marks condusive with age.
