Sir Alfred East; English painter and etcher; Royal Academy, R.I. P.R.B.A, 1849-1913, was born in Kettering, Northamptonshire and, after his time at the Glasgow School of Art, studied in Paris under Adolphe-William Bouguereau before settling in London in 1873. His distinctive palette of pale browns and greens and idealisation of the landscape show the influence of the French Barbizon painters.
This excellent etching has bright and unfaded colouring, in sepia ink with superb plate tone. The image printed within an impression and platemark on a wove paper sheet size 15 cms. x 14 cms. (6 x 5½ ins).
Signed in pencil by the artist bottom right, and signed and dated with the artists monogram in the image.
Unframed and unmounted, blank on the reverse, the condition of the image and sheet is good with handling marks condusive with age.
