Andrew Affleck; Scottish artist and etcher; 1874-1935. Andrew was an Ayr painter and etcher who specialised in architectural subjects, ranked with Hedley Fitton and Axel Haig. He travelled and lived for long periods around Belgium, France and Spain but returned to London. Affleck etched many views in England, Holland, Italy, Belgium and in America and around 1910, moved permanently to France.
This superb etching has retained its colour, bright and unfaded, in black ink, with excellent detail and plate tone. The image measuring approximately 22 cms x 30 cms. (8½ x 12 ins.) within a fine but evident plate mark and impression.
Printed on a laid paper sheet size 33 cms x 45 cms. (13 x 17½ ins.) with full margins and deckle edges.
Signed in pencil by the artist in the lower margin.
Unmounted and unframed, the condition of the image and the sheet is good with a light toning to a previous mat window and handling marks condusive with age.
