Armand Durand, 1831-1905; a noted engraver, dedicated most of his life re-creating early etchings from the masters. He studied those pieces available in museums and private collections and duplicated the images onto new copper plates, achieving incredible clarity and accuracy through his own technical abilities.
An etching which has retained its color, bright and unfaded in black ink, with fine detail and intaglio lines. The image measuring approximately 16 cms x 13 cms. (6¼ x 5 ins.) on a laid paper sheet size 17 cms x 14 cms. (6¾ x 5¼ ins.) with makers watermark.
Signed with an Armand Durand red stamp monogram (circle with crosslines) on the reverse sheet.
Unframed and unmounted, the condition of the image and sheet is good, with handling marks an an overall toning condusive with age.
