Myles Birket Foster; British, 1825 -1899, one of England’s greatest nineteenth century artists of rustic and pastoral scenes, Birket Foster held a high reputation as a painter and illustrator. Foster came to London at the age of five and became an apprentice to Ebenezer Landells, a wood engraver who had studied under Thomas Bewick. Birket Foster's etching are rare, in total he created only about six original etchings, all within a ten year period dating from 1881 to 1941.
An excellent etching which is bright, unfaded in dark brown ink, with fine detail and rich ink lines. The image printed on a wove paper sheet size of 24 cms. x 33 cms. (9½ x 13 ins.)
Signed with the artists monogram in the image.
Unframed and unmounted, the condition of the image and sheet is good with handling marks and toning condusive with age.
