Burnett Napier Henderson Orphoot ('Phootie'); 1880-1964, born at 'The Priory' in Eastgate, Peebles, the son of Thomas Henderson Orphoot, Sheriff Substitute of Lothian and Peebles and his wife Edith Carmichael Smythe Burnett. Burnett was educated at Rugby and the University of Edinburgh and studied at the Edinburgh School of Applied Art and in the atelier of Gustave Umbdenstock and studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in France.
Orphoot returned to Edinburgh and commenced independent practice with an office in London. He was commissioned in the Royal Engineers in the First World War.
A very fine etching which is bright and unfaded, in black ink with excellent detail and plate toning, the image printed within a fine but evident platemark and impression on a fine japon paper sheet, measuring approximately size 23 cms. x 15 cms. (9 x 6 ins.)
Pencil signed by the artist below the image.
Unmounted and unframed, the condition of the image and sheet is good with handling marks condusive with age.
