Joseph Bishop Pratt; 1854-1910, born in Camden, New town, London; etcher, engraver and mezzotinter, apprenticed to David Lucas and became tutor to the English artist Sydney Ernest Wilson.
An superb original mezzotint etching which has retained its colour, bright and unfaded, in black ink with fine detail, plate toning and velvet textures, the image measuring approximately 35 cms x 12 cms. (14 x 4½ ins.) within a strong impression and platemark, on a chine colle applique paper sheet measuring 55 cms x 14 cms. (22 x 13 ins.) with full margins.
Signed in pencil by the artist in the lower margin, with a 'Printsellers Proof' embossed blindstamp.
Unframed and unmounted, the condition of the image is excellent and the sheet is good and handling marks condusive with age.
