Catherine Maud Nichols; 1848-1923, painter and etcher. Lifelong resident of Norwich and was the first lady artist to be invited to become a member of the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers (R.E.) - in 1882. she exhibited frequently at all the major galleries including the Royal Academy, The Society of Women Artists, and the Society of Painter-Etchers.

This fine drypoint etching has retained its excellent colouring, bright and unfaded, in black ink with very fine detail, ink lines, plate tone and drypoint burr, the image measuring approximately 13 cms. x 18 cms. (5 x 7 ins. )within a strong platemark and impression, on a wove paper sheet size 27 cms. x 36 cms. (10¾ x 14  ins. )

Signed and titled in pencil by the artist in the lower margin.

Unframed and unmounted, the condition of the image and sheet is very good with handling marks to the margins condusive with age.
