‘Mont Sainte Victoire’
Print after the original watercolour
by
Cézanne
The Montagne Sainte-Victoire is a mountain in southern France, overlooking Aix-en-Provence. It became the subject of a number of Cézanne's paintings. He painted it many times from different positions and under different light conditions. This view, which shows the mountain with a hooked outline, was painted from a steeply-terraced slope above his studio.
A fine print which has retained its colouring printed in coloured inks, the image measures 55 cms x 36 cms. (21¾ x 14¼ ins.) on a paper sheet measuring 57 cms x 38 cms. (22½ x 15 ins.)
The sheet has two faux stamps to the lower left image and carries an embossed blindstamp to the lower right margin.
Unframed and unmounted, blank on the reverse, the condition of the image and sheet is fair with several spot stains, soiling and handling marks condusive with age.
