A fine Proof etching
David Robertson; 1884-1944 , architect, watercolourist and etcher, educated at the Glasgow School of Architecture and Royal Technical College and Glasgow University. He worked for several Glasgow firms including Campbell Douglas & Paterson. He won the Alexander Thomson Scholarship in 1909, enabling him to spend a year in Italy, and also travelled in France and Belgium and another year in Italy. He undertook war service 1915 until 1919. In 1935 he became assistant architect to the Middlesex County Council.
This original proof drypoint etching is bright and unfaded in sepia ink, with excellent plate mark and plate tone. It has superb raised intaglio ink lines, the image size measuring approximately 26 cms. x 18 cms. (10½ x 7 ins.) on laid paper sheet 32 cms. x 21 cms.( 12½ x 8 ins.)
Signed by the artist in the lower margin and carries the annotations; 'To Maisie' and 'Trial D'.
Unframed and unmounted the condition of the image and the sheet is very good with handling marks condusive with age and a separation of the plate mark in the right margin.
