Edgar James Maybery
Edgar James Maybery; British, 1887-1966. Painter, watercolourist and etcher. Maybery completed his artistic training at the South Kensington School, London and was recognised for his architectural renderings, both in oils and in original printmaking. During the First World War Edgar served in the Royal Welsh Fusiliers where he spent much of his spare time sketching. Edgar also worked under the pseudonym of A. Simes and worked under several other aliases, probably for contractual reasons.
A fine atmospheric etching which is bright, unfaded in dark brown ink, with excellent plate tone. The image size measuring approximately 20 cms. x 12 cms. (8 x 4¾ ins.) within a fine but evident platemark and excellent impression, on a medium laid paper, sheet size 24 cms x 19 cms. (9½ x 7½ ins.) with partial makers watermark.
Signed and titled in pencil by the artist in the lower margin.
Unmounted and unframed, the condition of the image and sheet is very good with handling marks condusive with age.
