Ernest Lewellyn Hampshire; Ernest Hampshire was a landscape painter in oil and watercolour, etcher and architect. He was born at East Dulwich on 16th June 1882. He studied at Clapham School of Art, Heatherley's, the Central School of Arts and Crafts, and in Cornwall under J. Noble Barlow. He exhibited between 1907 and 1938 at the RA, R.I., R.O.I., in the provinces and at the Paris Salon and also at the Walker Art Gallery.
An original drypoint etching, etched with fine plate tone and detail, which is bright and unfaded in black ink, the image measuring aprroximately 22 cms. x 14 cms. (8½ x 5½ ins.) within a fine but evident platemark and impression, on a laid paper sheet size 28 cms. x 20 cms. (11 x 8 ins.)
Signed and titled in pencil by the artist in the lower margin.
Unframed and unmounted, the condition of the image and the sheet is good with a toning to a previous mat window and handling marks condusive with age.
