Nude mezzotint etching
Limited edition print number 21 of a small edition of only 50 impressions.
Francis Kelly was born in St Paul Minnesota. He served with the United States Navy until 1948 when he entered the Art Centre School in Los Angeles. He studied at the Academie de la Grande Chaumiere in Paris in 1951/52, after which he studied at the Univeristy of Hawaii followed by the University of California.
Awarded a Fulbright grant in 1955, he came to the Graphic Department of the Central School in London where he decided to take up residence. He and his family have a strong association with Devon.
An original mezzotint etching which is bright with unfaded colour printed with rich dark blue ink, the image measuring approximately 20 cms x 32 cms. (8 x 12½ ins.) printed within a strong plate mark and impression, on a full size wove paper sheet measuring 29 cms x 40 cms. (11½ x 16 ins.) with full margins and deckle edges.
Signed in pencil by the artist with the title and edition in the lower margin.
Unframed and unmounted, the condition of the image and sheet is good with handling marks condusive with age.
