George Francis Reiss
George Francis Reiss; 1893-1973, Kendal born wood-engraver and watercolour landscape painter who was self-taught. George had a butcher’s shop at Market Place, Kendal. With his brother he took over the shop from his father who originally came from Buchenmuhle in Germany. Reiss was also a churchwarden at Holy Trinity, Kendal and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and also a member of the Royal Cambrian Academy, as well as being a member of the Lake Artists Society and chairman of the Kendal Art Society.
An antique woodcut engraving which has retained its colour, bright and unfaded, in black ink, the image printed on a medium wove paper sheet measuring approximately 10 cms x 14 cms. (4 x 5½ ins.)
Pencil signed by the artist with the edition 1/106 and the date 1955 also in pencil in the lower margin.
Unframed and unmounted, blank on the reverse, the condition of the image and the sheet is good with handling marks condusive with age.
