George Houston; 1869-1947, Born in Dalry in Ayrshire, educated at Saltcoats Public School and Glasgow School of Art. Houston specialised in landscapes of Ayrshire and Argyllshire in an impressionist style. He lived most of his life in Dalry painting his native Ayrshire but he also maintained a studio in Glasgow and spent time painting in the Inner Hebrides and around Loch Fyne. Houston became an Associate of the Royal Scottish Academy in 1909 and then an Academician in 1925.
A very fine etching which is bright and unfaded with fine detail, inking, drypoint burr and plate tone in a black ink. The image measures 25 cms. x 18 cms. (10 x 7 ins.) within a strong plate mark and impression on a wove paper sheet size of 29 cms. x 22 cms. (11¾ x 8¼ ins.)
Signed and titled by the artist in pencil beneath the image.
Unframed and unmounted, the condition of the image and sheet is good with paper and paste residue to the reverse sheet and handling marks condusive with age.
