Godwin Bennett

Godwin Bennett; 1888-1950, English painter and etcher, born and raised in Brighton later moving to Croydon living above his artist and picture shop, married in Steyning, Sussex. Godwin Bennett also worked on commision for Salmons postcards.

He painted mainly with oils and favoured harbour towns and landscapes. He exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1951 & 1952.

A very fine etching which is bright and unfaded with fine detail and inking in black ink. The image measures 15 cms. x 22 cms. (6 x 8½ ins.) within a strong plate mark and impression on a wove paper sheet size of 18 cms. x 26 cms. (7 x 10 ins.)

Signed and titled by the artist in pencil beneath the image.

Unframed and unmounted, the condition of the image and sheet is good with handling marks condusive with age.
