Gwendoline Marie May; Born 1903-....Etcher artist. Gwen was a Fellow of the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers and an accomplished wood engraver and watercolourist, aside from her few London views, she is known to have worked extensively in and around the areas of Stratford-upon-Avon and Mousehole in Cornwall; she also travelled to Spain and Portugal in search of subjects for her plates. She exhibited at the Royal Academy regularly in the pre-war years.
A very fine original soft ground etching which is bright and unfaded, with excellent plate tone and detail in black ink, the image printed within a strong platemark and impression on a wove paper sheet measuring approximately 24 cms. x 31 cms, (9½ x 12 ins.)
Signed and titled in pencil by the artist in the lower margin.
Given as a gift 1978.
Unframed and unmounted,blank on the reverse, the condition of the image and sheet is good with handling marks condusive with age.
