'La Basilique'
du Sacre Loeur de Montmarte
original remarque proof etching
by
Jean-Jules Dufour
Jean-Jules Dufour: French artist and etcher; 1889-1945. A successful engraver and print maker. Jean specialized in ruined fortified towns, especially typical of the Pyrenean area in France.
This rare etching is bright and unfaded, in sepia ink with superb toning, detail and raised ink lines. The image size measuring approximately 26 cms. x 34 cms. (10¼ x 13½ ins.) with a worn bt evident plate mark and impression, on medium watermarked BFK RIVES paper sheet size of 30 cms. x 41 cms.(12 x 16 ins.)
Jean-Jules Dufour's etchings are scarce and very sought after by collectors and museums.
Pencil signed to the bottom right, the print carries a range of fantastically detailed remarque images within the lower plate and a red ink collectors stamp to the left lower margin.
Unframed and unmounted, the condition of the image is excellent, the sheet has handling marks, condusive with age, some hard creases to the top outer margins and several small tears to the edges, with one just extending to the platemark.
