John Charles Moody; 1884-1962, British artist, born in Walton-on-Thames, Surrey. Painter & etcher of landscapes, figures & architechtural subjects. Studied art at London, Paris, Antwerp and Italy. Was President of Society of Sussex Artists 1954 and also President of the Society of Graphic Artists. Principal of Hornsey School of Arts & Crafts 1926-47. Lived London then Burpham, nr Arundel, Sussex. Produced posters for LNER & BR.
A fine drypoint etching which is bright and unfaded in black ink, with excellent plate toning, superb textures and drypoint burr, the image measuring approximately 28 cms. x 23 cms. (11 x 9 ins ) printed within a fine but evident platemark and impression on a laid paper sheet measuring 31 cms. x 27 cms. (12 x 10½ ins.) laid to a backing.
Signed and titled in pencil in the lower margin.
Unmounted and unframed, the condition of the image and sheet is good with paste residue to the sheet edges and handling marks condusive with age.
