John Gruenwald was born in Milwaukee, U.S.A. in 1951 and began drawing at a young age. His school teacher introduced Gruenwald to etching, and went on to Major in printmaking at Layton School of Art & Design, From Milwaukee he moved from Taos, New Mexico, then worked Chicago, and back to Milwaukee.
In 1994 he moved to San Francisco and with Austin Printmaker Terry Chastain became Tinhorn Press. Gruenwald's work ranges from paintings to prints and drawings. His subjects are soft, contemplative and calm, often of sensual women and faces and heads in meditation, as is our offering today.
A fine etching, printed in black ink, the image measuring 21 cms. x 25 cms.( 8 x 10 ins.) within a strong platemark and impression, on a chine colle applique on a wove paper sheet size 27 cms. x 38 cms. (18 x 15 ins.) with makers watermark and deckle edges.
Signed in pencil by the artist with the edition also in pencil below the image.
Included is the original certificate of originality issued by the publisher.
Unframed and unmounted, the condition of the image and sheet is excellent.
