Johnstone Baird; 1880-1935, Painter and etcher, born in Ayrshire. Studied Glasgow School of Art. During the First World War he served as an architect with the Admiralty. Travelled widely on the Continent. Exhibited 1910-30. Baird held an apartment in London throughout the 1920’s in order to capitalise on the popularity of his Scottish views with English clients during the etching boom.
A fine drypoint etching which is bright and unfaded in black ink, with fine detail, plate tone and drypoint burr. The image size measuring approximately 32 cms. x 23 cms. (12½ x 9 ins.) within a strong platemark and impression, on a wove paper sheet size of 39 cms. x 29 cms. (15 x 11 ins.)
Signed in pencil by the artist in the lower margin.
Unframed and unmounted, the condition of the image and sheet is good with handling marks condusive with age.
