An original remarque proof etching
Louis Ruet
after the painting by
Jean-Louis Ernest Meissonier
Louis Ruet; 1861- 1905, listed french reproductive etcher, born in Paris and a pupil of Le Rat. Louis was president of French etchers Society and achieved the Gold Medal of Honour at the Paris Salon, he exhibited at the Societe des Artistes Francais from 1881. His works were known in England by his etchings after Meissonier.
An original Proof etching, signed in pencil by Louis Ruet, printed 1896, after a painting by Meissonier. The sheet carries the artists remarque etching below the main image.
A very finely detailed etching which is bright and unfaded, in black ink, the image printed within a fine but evident platemark and impression.
Printed on a medium vellum sheet, size; 30 cms. x 25 cms, (11 x 10 ins.) laid to a backing.
Printed above the image;
‘Copyright, C. Klackner’
Signed and dated in the image and signed by the etcher in pencil in the lower margin.
Unframed and unmounted, the condition of the image and the sheet is good with handling marks condusive with age.
